Water Bore Morley

Water Bore Morley

Today we finished connecting a another new Morley water bore. Last week we drilled the submersible style bore down to a depth of 18 metres. We cased the bore shallower at 14 metres because of our negative evaluation of the ground water conditions in the last four metres. Often it is water boring experience and local knowledge that ensures the best result. Here the static water table was at only 2 metres with a good sustainable supply. This particular morley water bore was for a small block with limited access so it was a tight fit for our bore drilling rig! The bottom 6 metres of the bore was cased with 100mm diameter class 9 slotted bore casing to allow the water in. The annulus around this slotted casing was packed with drillers gravel to act as a primary filter. We then pumped compressed air down the borehole to air develop the bore before pump installation.

Stainless Steel submersible Pump

Stainless Steel submersible Pump

Submersible Pump

The submersible 12 stage submersible pump we installed here was coupled to genuine “Calpeda” stainless steel submersible motors. Calpeda are one of the best submersible motors in the world and are made in northern Italy. In this case it was a single phase 1.1kw (1.5hp) motor easily delivering 90 litres per minute of groundwater to the surface. The pump was installed just above the slotted casing so water is drawn past the motor into the pump inlet. This helps reduce the operating temperature of the motor and improves overall bore life.

Electrical and Retic connection.

A licensed electrical contractor connected the bore to a separate circuit on 240v mains house power. In this case the homes existing reticulation system hadn’t been used for years and was inoperable so we had the electrician install a new reticulation controller, interface it for auto start of the bore and run solenoid wires to the ground. We then connected the new bore to the remnants  of the old reticulation system and turned it on to see what would happen. As expected water bubbled up from broken pipes and snapped and hidden disused  sprinklers everywhere. We located the old unserviceable solenoid valves and rewired and replaced them. In less than a day we had overhauled the old retic system, extended it for full coverage and had all the sprinklers operating as good as the day they were first installed.
